NEC drop first points in stalemate at Mbarara City

    David GOMBE

Mbarara City and NEC FC played out a goalless draw in their Uganda Premier League (UPL) meeting at Rwamwanja Stadium, Kamwenge, on Friday.

Prior to the contest against the Ankole Lions, NEC had cruised to wins in both of their opening two games against KCCA FC and Lugazi FC.

Mbarara City were aiming for their first win of the season, having lost their league opener to Police FC.

NEC head coach Badru Kaddu made two changes from the team that started against Lugazi FC last week, with both Mustafa Mujuzi and winger Emmanuel Kulanga starting the game. Richard Basangwa did not make the matchday squad.

Innocent Media thought he had given the visitors the lead, but his celebrations were cut short after being flagged offside by the assistant referee.

NEC had winger Kulanga forced off due to injury and replaced by Muhammad Kagawa Ssenoga.

Francis Mugerwa’s men held on to their first point of the season, while NEC dropped their first points of the campaign.

NEC remain third on the league table with seven points after three matches, while Mbarara City occupy 14th place with one point from two games.
