Crested Cranes striker Fauzia Najjemba has completed a move to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Boston Legacy FC in the United States.
Najjemba has signed a two-year renewable contract with the newly formed club, which confirmed the signing through its official social media platforms. “Adding some more fuel to our offensive firepower,” read the club’s announcement.
The Ugandan international joins Boston Legacy after the expiration of her contract with Russian side Dynamo Moscow, where she recently concluded her stint.
She links up with several new signings at the club, including Jorelyn Carabalí, Bárbara Olivieri, Ella Stevens and Alba Cano, among others, as Boston continues to build its squad ahead of its debut NWSL season.
“I’m really excited to join Boston Legacy. I’m so grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to give my all for the team. I’m so proud to represent Boston and eager to get to work,” Najjemba said in a statement published on the club’s website.
Boston Legacy general manager Domè Guasch also expressed his delight at securing the forward’s signature.
“We’re excited to welcome Fauzia to Boston. She’s a young player with a lot of potential who has already gained valuable experience across two European leagues, and she’s an important part of her national team,” he said.
The 2021 FUFA Women Player of the Year becomes the second Ugandan to feature in the NWSL, following Shadia Nankya, who joined Washington Spirit before being loaned to Dallas Trinity.
Boston Legacy FC is one of two newly created teams set to compete in the NWSL for the first time, following the league’s expansion from 14 to 16 teams.
The other expansion side is Denver Summit.
Najjemba has previously played for Dynamo Moscow, BIIK Shymkent, Kampala Queens, Isra Soccer Academy and Mukono High School.
