KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo has described the second round of the Uganda Premier League as “15 finals” as his side prepares to face NEC FC at Lugogo.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Ssenyondo stressed that his team will approach every remaining fixture with a must-win mentality as they seek to end their title drought dating back to the 2018/19 season.
“Every game is like a final, we want to win every game and winning all our games gives us a chance to be champions at the end of the season,” Ssenyondo noted.
KCCA FC head into the clash looking to bounce back after ending the first round with a loss to Entebbe UPPC. The defeat left the Lugogo-based side eager to make a strong statement at the start of the second round.
“This is a tough game, but we are also tough because we didn’t win the last game to end the first round so we want to come back stronger and start on a higher note,” Ssenyondo added.
They face a rejuvenated NEC FC side that has strengthened its squad during the break. Among the new additions is attacker Pius Obuya, who is expected to boost NEC’s attacking options.
However, Ssenyondo insisted his focus remains on his own squad rather than the opposition’s reinforcements.
“We do not know what kind of team (players) we will be facing because they have some new additions, but that is for them.
“We want to look at ourselves and focus on what we can do best. We have to come here and play well and see that we win. We don’t have to worry about their new signings or what they have,” he said.
The KCCA coach acknowledged the challenge NEC pose but reiterated his team’s desire to return to winning ways after the Entebbe UPPC setback.
KCCA are likely to remain without injured duo Etienne Katenga and Joao Gabriel for the Lugogo derby, as both players continue their recovery.
Heading into the fixture, KCCA sit fifth on the table with 30 points, 10 ahead of seventh-placed NEC, as the race for the Uganda Premier League title intensifies.
