    Ochan among former players to oversee FUFA Academies League

    The FUFA Executive Committee has appointed the Tournament Organising Committee (TOC) for the newly introduced FUFA Academies League, with Barente Ronald as Chairman, Kiwanuka Roberts as Vice Chairman, and Kigongo Farouk, Rodrick Muhumuza.

    Former National team players Lwanga Ronald, Benjamin Ochan and Yasser Mugerwa will serve as members on the committee.

    The organising committee will oversee the pilot Academies League in Buganda and Kampala regions due to be launched on 22nd March 2026.

    Ochan recently retired from football following his departure at NEC FC. The former custodian played for Bloemfontein Celtic, SC Villa, defunct Victoria university, Kabwe in Zambia warriors, AFC Leopards in Kenya and KCCA FC where he spent three different spells.

    At KCCA, he won two Uganda Premier League titles in 2015-16 and 2016-2017 seasons and also guided now defunct Sports Club Victoria University to the CECAFA Nile Basin Cup in 2014.

    Ochan also won the Uganda Cup in 2016-2017 season with KCCA.

    For the Uganda Cranes, Ochan has 17 caps and featured at two CHAN championships 2014 (South Africa) and 2018 (Morocco).

    Mugerwa is a former Super Cubs, SCVU, Nkumba University and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) player left Uganda in 2015 for South African giants Orlando Pirates where he spent two seasons.

    He then left Orlando Pirates for Ethiopian record champions St George.

    Mugerwa featured for two other Ethiopian clubs Fassil Kenema and Coffee before returning home to feature for KCCA FC and Express FC respectively.

    The FUFA Academies League project is under the FIFA Talent Development scheme and will aim at strengthening youth football structures and create a talent pipeline. The FUFA Academies League will be launched on Monday 16th March 2026 at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
