Mbarara City will be without several key players when they face Calvary this afternoon in their opening match of the second round of the Uganda Premier League at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge.
Reagan Matege misses out due to typhoid, Gaddafi Kacancu is sidelined with malaria, while Ambrose Arinda is suspended after accumulating three yellow cards.
However, head coach Said Byekwaso has been boosted by the availability of new signing and goalkeeper Derrick Emukule, who is expected to make his debut.
Mbarara City faced a player-crisis in the first round, with players reportedly going on strike due to unpaid salaries.
They had just 11 players (starting 11) in the game against Lugazi that ended 0-0 despite playing striker Clinton Kamugisha as a goalkeeper.
Consequently, they susoended four players – Kitegenyi Henry, Thembo Ibrahim, Wafula Innocent and Fahad Emuran.
A 6-1 defeat away to SC Villa followed before finishing the first round with a 1-1 draw against Maroons.
Mbarara City start the second round third from the bottom, 14th, with just 12 points.
The first round meeting between the two sides ended in a one-all draw in Yumbe.
