Kampala Queens’ bid to start the second round of the FUFA Women’s Super League on a positive note ended in disappointment after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Rines at Lugogo on Sunday.
The Queens initially took the lead with a first-half strike from Peace Muduwa.
However, Rines responded in the second half, with goals from Patricia Nanyanzi and Phionah Arach turning the game in their favor.
With the clock ticking down, Kampala Queens found a much-needed equalizer in the 80th minute through Zaitun Namaganda, ensuring the match ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
Reflecting on the game, Assistant Coach Sharon Kizza expressed her disappointment, emphasizing that the team could have secured all three points. “It’s a game that we should have won, especially given our previous results against Rines. We didn’t manage the game well, and we gave away goals that could have been avoided,” she said.
“Our defense lacked character, and we failed to capitalize on several chances in the final third.”
Despite the setback, Kizza remained optimistic about the team’s future. “We didn’t perform as expected, but we’ll build on this point and look to improve in our upcoming matches,” she added.
Earlier in the season, Kampala Queens had defeated Rines 5-2 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in October last year.
After the draw, the defending champions remain in third place on the league table with 22 points, seven points behind joint leaders She Corporate and Kawempe Muslim.
