    Ankole Cup Reaches Quarterfinal Stage as UVTAB becomes latest sponsors

    The 2026 Ankole Cup has reached the knockout stage following the climax of the group stage of the competition that started in June.

    The Ankole Cup is an inter-district tournament that brings together all the 13 districts that make up Ankole region.

    At the quarterfinal stage, Buhweju District will take on Kiruhura, Mbarara City will lock horns with Bushenyi while Ibanda will have a meeting with Rubirizi. Ntugamo will tussle with Rwampara.

    They will be played on home and away basis starting with this Saturday and Sunday.

    While addressing the media at Kati Kati Restuarant on Thursday, Osborn Mushabe, the chairperson Ankole Cup Media and Mobilisation thanks the fans and sponsors who have played a huge role towards the development of the competition.

    “We thank our dear fans, sponsors and media fraternity for the support rendered to this tournament. We are forever grateful and we still call upon all of you to continue supporting the Ankole Cup. To the fans even if your team is eliminated please come and be part.”

    Hon. Francis Mwijukye revealed that according to the rules there won’t be away goals rules at the knockout stage

    “As we head into the knockout stage, it is worthy to note that the away goals rules was removed and this implies that if teams are level on aggregate, the winner will be determined on penalties.” He stated

    Meanwhile, the Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) is the latest sponsor added to Ankole Cup. They will cater for match officials and man of the match accolades.

    After the quarterfinal stage, the semifinals will be scheduled for Sunday ,2nd August to 9th with the final slated for 16th of the same month at Kabwohe stadium.
