SC Volcanoes earned important three points after defeating Kabale City FC 1–0 in a FUFA Western Regional League 2026 match played at Kabale Municipal Stadium.
SC Volcanoes, also known as Mutolere SC, travelled to Kabale earlier in the day and arrived at the stadium at exactly 1:00 PM ahead of the 4:00 PM scheduled kickoff.
From the opening minutes, SC Volcanoes showed early dominance and pushed Kabale City into their half of the pitch despite the hosts attempting several long balls forward.
During the first half, Kabale City tried to find openings through attacks led by their captain Kada (shirt number 10), Paddy (shirt number 11), and striker Owanyi (shirt number 9). However, the SC Volcanoes defense, marshalled by Alunna (shirt number 5) Bafana ( shirt number 3) and Derrick (shirt number 6), remained solid and denied Kabale City any clear chances on target.
The strong defensive display ensured the first half ended goalless.
In the second half, SC Volcanoes increased the tempo and maintained high ball possession while continuing to search for the breakthrough. Long passes from defender Derrick (shirt number 6) connecting with Ronaldo (shirt number 7) and Sunny (shirt number 11) created several attacking opportunities.
Despite the pressure, Kabale City goalkeeper Akankunda produced a number of impressive saves to deny SC Volcanoes taking the lead as the visitors missed several chances.
The turning point came midway through the second half when Alex Mandela was introduced as a substitute, bringing fresh energy to the SC Volcanoes midfield and attack.
In the 86th minute, Mandela Alex made the decisive impact when he opened the netting with headed goal from a corner kick to give SC Volcanoes a 1–0 lead, a goal that eventually sealed the victory.
Speaking after the match, the SC Volcanoes captain and match-day changer Alex Mandela, said he was happy to score the hard-fought goal after coming off the bench.
He noted that he had missed the previous match against Kihihi due to illness but was pleased to return and contribute to the team’s victory.
He added that the club remains committed to giving their best as they continue working towards competing in higher national leagues.
Coach Rukanga Clif, the Kabale city fc Head coach commended the team’s fans who attended the match, noting that their presence contributes to the growth of football in the community.
He described the match as competitive and commended his players for their determination and effort.
The coach also called on referees to remain fair and professional in their decisions, emphasizing that fairness is important for maintaining the integrity of football in Uganda.
Coach Cliff also added that the match marked Kabale City’s first game of the second round and praised his players for challenging league leaders SC Volcanoes until the final minutes.
Despite the result, he expressed confidence in his team, noting that Kabale City, currently fifth on the table, will continue working hard in upcoming matches as they aim to compete for promotion to Big league.
However, SC Volcanoes head coach Patrick Ochan praised his players, coaching staff, and management for securing another important victory that keeps the team at the top of the table.
Coach Ochan described the game as very intense, noting that many players from both teams know each other well since they have previously played football in the Kabale area, making the encounter feel like a derby.
Despite the tough contest, he said the most important thing was securing the three points.
Regarding injuries, the coach revealed several who picked the injuries are recovering, while April who was injured during the match against Kihihi has now also returned to the squad with Babujji currently unavailable due to family matters, while others travelled home but the rest of the squad remains fit and ready for selection.
Coach Ochan also thanked the fans for their continued support, describing them as the team’s 12th player and urged them to keep backing the club.
He added that SC Volcanoes will continue working hard to achieve positive results and invited supporters to attend their next match against Asante Fc at Mashaka Playground next Sunday at 4:00 PM in kisoro district.
In addition, SC Volcanoes president Dr. Martin Mbonye addressed the players after the match and congratulated the players, coaches, and management for the hard-fought victory.
Dr. Mbonye praised the team’s determination and commitment on the pitch and thanked the management for the important work done behind the scenes to ensure the team remains well organized and competitive.
He also commended the coaching staff for building a strong and competitive squad and encouraged the team to continue maintaining discipline and focus as they pursue greater success in the future.
Meanwhile with the victory Volcanoes will continue to lead the table with 33 points, whereas Kabale city remains at 13 points according to table standings.
