Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho is confident the team can pick a positive result in their opening match of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco on Tuesday at 11:00 PM.
Uganda will take on Tunisia at the Stade Annexe Olympique, Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, with both sides looking to make an impact in Group C of the tournament.
The Cranes, under coach Paul Put arrive at the tournament with confidence — proud to be part of the tournament and determined to compete strongly.
“The team is in good shape and everyone is ready to compete,” Aucho stated.
“Many people have not given us a chance, but we are focused on making our nation and the people back home proud.”
Uganda Head Coach Paul Put reiterated the same, he said: “The team is preparing well and focused on the game. I know my players better now, and they are gradually gelling into a strong side that will compete.”
“We are very proud to be at this tournament, we are not only playing to be watched by Africa, but by the whole world,” Put added.
History, Stats Favors Tunisia
The tie will mark the third meeting for the two sides in AFCON history, with both teams eager to build on past experiences and secure vital points.
Their AFCON meetings span several decades. Tunisia and Uganda first crossed paths in the 1962 tournament, where Tunisia claimed the bronze medal after winning the third-place play-off.
They met again in the 1978 group stage, with Tunisia securing a 3-1 victory.
Tunisia’s most emphatic result against Uganda came during the 2000 edition, a commanding 6–0 win on home soil.
More than twenty years later, Tunisia enters this match under the guidance of head coach Samy Trabelsi, carrying both expectation and responsibility.
