Egypt have secured qualification for the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals after an intense extra-time victory against Benin in around of 16 clash at Grand Stade d’Agadir.

Marwan Attia had put Egypt ahead but Benin forced extra-time when Jodel Dossou equalised in the 82nd minute.

Yasser Ibrahim and Mo Salah got the job done in extratime as the Pharaohs and record winners survived a scare.

Marwan Attia opened the scoring with a neat finish into the top corner from outside the box after he was set up by Salah.

Benin got a lifeline with Jodel Dossou’s effort taking a deflection off the Egyptian defender to elude goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

Yasser Ibrahim restored Egypt’s lead with a looping header from a cross delivered from the right flank in extra time.

Mohamed Salah put the icing on the cake when he was put through by Ahmed Sayed to finish off a brilliant counter-attack.

Egypt who have won the title a record seven times, will face winner between Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
