Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Gabon has been eliminated from the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a game to spare.

Gabon suffered a 3-2 defeat against Mozambique in a thrilling match at Stade Adrar.

Goals from Aubameyang and Moucketou-Moussounda proved not enough as Mozambique scored thrice through Faizal Bangal, Geny Catamo and Diogo Calila.

The defeat is their second in as many group games for Gabon who earlier lost 1-0 to Cameroon in their opener.

Nicknamed the Panthers, Gabon sit bottom of Group F with zero points, and will face Ivory Coast in their last group match on Wednesday.

The top two teams of each group, along with the best four third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16.

Even a win agaisnt Ivory Coast on the last day cannot elavate Gabon from the root of the table, due to their poor head to head with Mozambique who is also on three points.

Ivory Coast and Cameroon are already on four points after the sides played out a 1-1 draw in the same group.

Gabon who missed the 2023 AFCON edition in Ivory Coast, were eliminated by Burkina Faso in shootouts at the round of 16 in the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
